There weren’t many expectations for PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing today at Red Bull Ring in race 2 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at the Styrian venue. Following yesterday’s ill-fated runs in race 1, the team’s two drivers started from the back and faced an extremely difficult situation for those needing a recovery.
Due to the safety-car starting procedure, with the drivers all packed up, it was difficult to get a jump, while with three DRS zones saw all the contenders to use the system at the same time thus reducing the chances for passing.
The result was that Nyck De Vries ended up in 14th place, while Sean Gelael, who also experienced degradation issues, retired after a contact while defending his position late in the race.

Race 2: DNF Fastest lap: 1:17.847
“I didn’t have the pace today and struggled a lot with the tires and the deg, especially with the rears which is a shame because compared to yesterday we didn’t change a lot on the car and the weather didn’t change too. Still, there was quite a bit of a difference. It was a bit of a boring race for everyone, then in the end I was just trying to defend and I think what happened there a racing incident.”
Nyck De Vries
Qualifying: P9 Fastest lap: 1:14.171
Race 1: DNF Fastest lap: 1:19.531
Race 2: P14 Fastest lap: 1:17.985
“It was always going to be a difficult race starting from last basically, especially with the Safety car starting procedure. It was very close and with three DRS zones everybody stayed together and since everybody has DRS there’s no chance to gain anything. That’s why it was a very tough race for us. We managed to recover a few positions but obviously nothing like we would have liked. It’s the story of this race. It was just a train and not many gained positions from the back.”
