Maximilian Günther claimed back-to-back race wins on Sunday, winning the Grand Prix de Pau with Callum Ilott second to close the lead to F3 championship rivals.
The weekend started on a high at the historic Pau street circuit, which played host to round three of the FIA European Formula 3 Championship, with Ilott taking pole position for Race 1 ahead of Günther who lined up on the second row in P4.
Ilott made an excellent start off the line but contact with the barriers forced him to retire meanwhile 2016 F3 vice-champion Günther did well to finish on the podium in third. Ferrari Driver Academy member Guanyu Zhou was also forced to retire whilst F3 rookie Mick Schumacher performed strongly on his first visit to Pau to claim a point’s finish in P9 as well as P2 in the Rookie Classification.
Starting second for Race 2 on Sunday, Günther got an exceptional getaway to take the race lead before securing his first race win of the season with Ilott completing the final podium place in P3.
The Prema Theodore Racing team continued in fine fashion in Sunday’s Race 3, claiming a dominant double-podium finish in the famous Grand Prix de Pau with Zhou taking a top-10 points finish and Schumacher on the Rookie Podium once again.
Prema Theodore Racing has extended its championship lead in the Team Standings and looks ahead to Round 4 at the Hungaroring in a months’ time.
