Our History

Theodore Racing was founded in the 1970’s by Hong Kong businessman Teddy Yip. Over the years Theodore Racing has worked with some of the biggest names in the sport, including F1 World Champions Ayrton Senna, Keke Rosberg, Mika Hakkinen and Alan Jones.

Teddy helped Desire Wilson enter into Formula 1. She became the only woman to win a Formula One race of any kind when she won at Brands Hatch in the short-lived British Aurora F1 Championship.

Status Grand Prix won the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport under the name “Team Ireland”.

Following a 21-year absence from competition and to mark the 30th anniversary of Senna’s Macau Grand Prix victory, Theodore Racing made a spectacular return and won on the 60th Macau Grand Prix with Alex Lynn.

Teddy Yip expanded Theodore Racing’s partnership with Prema to include GP2, F3 and F4. That year Theodore Racing / Prema became champions at every level entered. In total, the team won six Championships.

Theodore Racing Today

Theodore Racing is committed to continue its success with the World’s most talented young drivers and is proud to be supporting Guanyu Zhou, who hopes to become the World’s first Chinese Formula 1 racing driver. Currently Guanyu races for Uni-Virtuosi in the FIA Formula 2 Championship and has been given the role of test driver for Alpine Formula 1 team.

During the unprecedented times of 2020, Theodore Racing supported Darryl O'Young as he took on the Macau GT Cup. He claimed his fourth victory carrying the Theodore logo during the qualification race.

This year Theodore will once again compete at the Macau Grand Prix for the Formula 3 World Cup and hopes to return with a ninth victory!

Theodore Success

Theodore is proud to claim an exceptional list of alumni.

Of the 26 drivers who competed at Macau for Theodore between 1978-1992, no fewer than 25 went on to become Formula 1 drivers, the 26th went on to win the Indianapolis 500. Four also went on to become Formula 1 World Champions: Ayton Senna, Keke Rosberg, Mika Hakkinen and Alan Jones.

In the modern era seven Theodore drivers have gone on to Formula One, eight are pursuing a career in Formula E, one is thriving in the IndyCar series. Many more continue to compete across the highest level in both single-seater and endurance racing.
