Theodore Racing returns in pursuit of tenth Macau GP victory SJM as promotional partner

Theodore Racing returns to the Macau Grand Prix looking to take its victory haul into double figures as it partners with Blackjack Racing and SJM Resorts, S.A. for the 69th running of the prestigious street circuit event.

The Theodore team, which claimed Macau success as far back as 1983 with the late Ayrton Senna, welcomes continued support from SJM Resorts, S.A. (formerly Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A.), which returns as promotional partner for 2022.

With the Grand Prix once more featuring Formula 4, Theodore turns to Charles Leong Hon Chio (Macau SAR) to again lead its assault. The local hero claimed the team's ninth Macau win last season, as he joined the rarefied group of back-to-back winners of the event, including former Theodore Racing drivers Geoff Lees (1979-80) and, most recently, Felix Rosenqvist (2014-15).

The 21-year-old returns to the scene of his greatest motorsport success having recently turned his hand, successfully, to GT racing for Harmony Racing this year in CEC and the China GT series. With victory in both of his outings at the wheel of a Ferrari 488 GT3 – his first races since last year’s Macau triumph – Leong returns to the fold at Theodore Racing in a bid to become the first three-time winner of the Macau Grand Prix, as he contests the event for the fifth time.

Leong will be partnered in Macau by Li Sicheng from China, a podium regular in the enclave in recent years. The former Pacific F2000 champion raced competitively in the United States F4 Championship before returning to contest the Chinese Endurance Championship and, last year, the Shell Helix FIA F4 Chinese Championship, where he joined Leong on the Macau podium. Li's season-long entrant, Blackjack Racing, is teaming up with Theodore for the first time at the 2022 event to race under the Theodore Blackjack Racing banner.

Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, commented, “We are proud to extend our sponsorship of Theodore Racing, reflecting our longstanding support for Macau Grand Prix and our historical ties with Theodore.” She added, “SJM is also the title sponsor of the SJM Macau Roadsport Challenge this year. We believe that the cross-integration of sports and tourism will bring substantial benefits to Macau as a world centre of tourism and leisure.”

Mr. Teddy Yip, Jr commented, “The Macau Grand Prix is really a home event for me. Also having won it last year with local driver Charles we are looking to try and make it a hattrick for him. Charles's teammate is Li Sicheng and as a podium finisher in Macau, he sure has his eyes on that top step. I am looking forward to fantastic weekend.”

Charles Leong commented, “The Macau Grand Prix it’s always one of the most special races of the year. I am really looking forward to the Macau Grand Prix, and hopefully this year I could get a good result and will try my best to make it three in a row!”

The Macau Grand Prix runs between 17-20 November. International viewers can watch via a worldwide live stream on the Macau Grand Prix website (www.macau.grandprix.gov.mo).
