PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing put together a convincing comeback today in Silverstone, as the FIA Formula 2 Championship lined-up for the opening race of the weekend. The British venue delivered good action once again, keeping up with the heritage of such an amazing frame for motorsports.
Dutchman Nyck De Vries put his skills to fruition today, showing plenty of fighting spirit and capitalizing on a bold overcut strategy by the team. De Vries battled his way among the top-5 and eventually ended up in seventh place which will be good for a front row start in tomorrow’s race 2. The team is now working as hard as possible to end the weekend on a high note.
It was a tough day for Sean Gelael. The Indonesian was forced to battle at the bottom end of the pack without finding the performance edge needed to improve his position. Gelael was then forced to retire due to a contact occurred while he was trying to defend himself from a contender.

“Very frustrating day, very frustrating race. I think in the corners we were quite good, but we were four tenths away from the cars in front with the DRS open and we couldn’t overtake so it was going to be impossible to fight for the points. Then, in the end, I made a mistake while trying to defend my position on Norris and that cost me dearly. Anyway, we’re fighting for positions further down than we hoped. We will probably need a miracle to contend tomorrow but we are definitely giving our 100 percent to make it happen.”

Race 1: P7 Fastest lap: 1:45.333
“Starting from P11 we knew it was going to be a tough race especially because we were lacking a little bit of pace yesterday. We had a strong stint on options and we did well to overcut the drivers in front of us. The team did a very good pit-stop and we managed to overtake quite a few cars thanks to our strategy, pit-stop and in/out laps. Unfortunately I wasn’t really able to keep my position and lost a couple of spots, otherwise, we could have potentially finished in P5. Let’s work hard for tomorrow, find a bit more pace and hopefully, we will fight for the win.”
