The dawn of a new era. As the FIA Formula 2 Championship is preparing for the first round of the 2018 season, the Prema Theodore team is set for an all-new challenge. Lining-up at Al Sakhir in Bahrain, the Italian squad will debut with two new drivers and – as all the other teams – with the ground-breaking 2018 Dallara racecar. Having joined Prema during the off-season, Sean Gelael and Nyck de Vries will be aiming for an unprecedented third straight championship title to follow the ones secured by Pierre Gasly in 2016 and Charles Leclerc in 2017.

Gelael, 21 years old from Indonesia, will rely on his experience to make the difference in 2018, and already surprised in preseason testing, especially in race trim. On the other hand, 23-year-old De Vries, from the Netherlands, will be at his second year in the series after securing one win, only at his third outing in Monte Carlo last season.

On the other hand, the tough Bahrain venue will be a particularly challenging one for the 612-horsepower turbocharged racecar, aimed at bridging the gap between Formula 2 and Formula 1. With the high temperatures expected and the risk of tire degradation, finding the right direction will be paramount.

René Rosin – Team Principal
“We are set for a very challenging first round of the season with new drivers, new car, new engine and we will debut on a tricky racetrack like Bahrain, where environmental variables can impact a weekend’s outcome. On the other hand, we are well prepared and we can rely on two skilled and talented drivers. We know it won’t be easy to do it all again but, since we love tough challenges, we can’t wait to get back on-track.”
