PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing goes to Russia! In the penultimate round of the 2018 FIA Formula 2 season, the Italian squad will line-up for the first time on the former Sochi Olympic Park. The resort on the shores of the Black Sea welcomes back the series after a two-year break, and for a team that did so well in the past in terms of their first experiences, the weekend will surely be an exciting challenge.
Only four races are left before the end of the season but with 96 points still on the table, there are plenty of chances for the drivers to provide surprises or revert expectations. Currently holding 5th place in the points standings, Nyck De Vries is hoping to get back to the momentum that gave him 10 consecutive points finishes, including two feature race, wins, between Silverstone and Monza. The 23-year-old Dutchman will also be lining up for the first time at the Russian venue.
On the other hand, Sean Gelael will put his experience to fruition as he already raced there in 2015. The 21-year-old Indonesian will get a head start at the 5.8-kilometre circuit and will be aiming to bounce back to a points finish which would be pivotal for him and the whole operation. PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing is currently fifth in the team standings, with fourth place in sight.
René Rosin – Team Principal
“This is going to be a new experience for us, but as we always do, we love challenges and in the past, we always proved that we can make the most out of this kind of situations. After suffering from some setbacks at Monza, we hope to see Nyck back as a leading force in the series and he proved it can be so. Sean will provide his experience and that will be key in trying to make the difference.”
