Jerez, Spain

Sunday saw the freshly crowned 2017 FIA Formula 2 Driver Champion Charles Leclerc start from P8 and feature race podium holder Antonio Fuoco set off in P6.

After a fifteen minute delay due to the safety car breaking down, both drivers had a good start. In the early laps Leclerc made a stunning move up the inside of turn 6 taking P5 away from Oliver Rowland. Teammate Fuoco followed through before passing Leclerc. With fourteen laps to run and struggling on the prime tyres both drivers pitted for fresh rubber. Rejoining the field behind each other in P15 and P16, both Prema Theodore drivers swiftly begun to climb the pack passing their rivals one by one.

Leclerc quickly made it into the top five positions with only a few laps to go. However, as the last lap emerged the Monegasque’s tyres suffered from degradation once more and his teammate passed him on the last corner. Antonio Fuoco crossed the line in P5 with Charles Leclerc closely followed in P7.

Although the 2017 drivers title has been decided, the team championship will be a thrilling fight to the end! Prema Theodore Racing are only 2 points ahead of DAMS and 6 points in front of Russian Time. The showdown which takes place in Abu Dhabi 24-26th November will be one not to miss!

# 1 – Charles Leclerc
“The race definitely did not go according to plans today. We lost a little bit of time with Antonio at the beginning, then the tires degraded too much. We need to work on that to improve for the final round of the season.“

# 2 – Antonio Fuoco
“Actually the race was quite fun like yesterday. It was difficult because we used one set of new prime tires in qualifying and we had to pit which was good, maybe we could have stayed on track a little more but with used primes it was impossible. After the pit-stop everything went in the right direction. The car was really good and we finished the race in a positive position trying to score as many points as possible for the team. We will now focus on Abu Dhabi to try and win the team championship.“
