Maiden Pole Position for Nyck De Vries

PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing delivered its first pole of 2018 in spectacular fashion today at Spa-Francorchamps, in the qualifying session for the Belgian round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. Despite having had his first lap time deleted, 23-year-old Dutchman Nyck De Vries remained stone-cold and delivered an amazing lap to top his closest contender by 0.4 seconds. He will push for his third win of the season tomorrow in race 1 to keep the positive momentum started at Hungaroring. On the fast and famed Spa venue, conditions remained good for the whole day, which started with a promising P1 by De Vries in practice.

On the other hand, 21-year-old Indonesian Sean Gelael started off with a good practice run too in P14 but faced some issues which prevented him from going beyond P17 in qualifying despite improving his placing with a final attempt.

Sean Gelael, Car #3

“It was a disappointing day. We have to look exactly at what happened. It’s been a difficult qualifying session considering what we had. We are back to the drawing board to understand and analyze what happened. We know that in the races we can be fighting for the top-10.”

Nyck De Vries, Car #4

“I’m extremely happy for taking our first pole together. I’ve been really strong all day, and honestly, the car was amazing. Thank you very much to the team for that. It was a bit of an exciting one as our first lap got deleted. There was some pressure for the second run, you know you have everything to do it and you have only one shot. I’m very happy that I’ve done it, let’s see if we can turn it into a win tomorrow. It would be perfect to perform well in front of all the Dutch fans that will come to support us.”
